Advising the Digital Cinematography Program at Full Sail University

Recently, I was asked by Full Sail University to become a Program Advisory Committee member for their Digital Cinematography program. The PAC is comprised of industry professionals who help evaluate Full Sail’s current curriculum, tools, and degree programs, and who also make recommendations on any areas (if any) that could be improved. These insights and perspectives can then be used by Full Sail to better prepare its students for successful careers after graduation.
Two years prior, I was also asked to participate as an occupational specialist when the university was renewing its accreditation with the ACCSC, the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges.
For my first PAC meeting, we got an in-depth look at Full Sail’s online Digital Cinematography degree program offerings. It was exciting to offer feedback based on my own work experience that may eventually help the next generation of media professionals. It was also an honor to be included in such an esteemed group of industry veterans— many I was already acquainted with from working together in our respective fields over the years.
I remember back when Full Sail started with one building, as a trade school with a focus on the (audio) recording arts. Since then, Full Sail has evolved into a highly respected university, with an extensive campus, in-person and online degree programs, state-of-the-art facilities, experienced faculty, and relevant instruction for entertainment media and emerging technologies.
I’ve worked with Full Sail graduates on projects and at companies, met new contacts through industry-related events, and have visited the Full Sail campus many times through the years. As a volunteer PAC member, it is a tremendous opportunity to learn from my fellow colleagues, be a part of Full Sail University’s future improvements and plans for growth, and to help “give back” to the industry I have loved as I’ve grown in my own media career.
